During 2019 and 2020, I was part of a team led by the NGO consultancy, Flamingo, which specialises in management and institutional funding for civil society organisations (CSO) to carry out funding research on behalf of Forus, the global network empowering civil society for effective social change.  The aim of the research was to identify promising approaches to funding CSO networks.  Led by Rachel Hayes, the lead consultant at Flamingo, we reviewed 34 publications and spoke to 21 networks across the global South and North to assess their access to funding. Being fluent in French and Spanish, I was able to carry out these interviews in francophone and hispanophone countries when the networks preferred.

Following on from this initial research, we then also identified practical ways for networks and platforms to generate income via a practical toolkit which was published by Forus in 2020: Exploring New Funding Approaches for Civil Society. 

In 2019, Jaymie also supported Flamingo to update Bond’s How To Guide on Fundraising from Institutions. Whilst this guide is now somewhat out of date, with DFID´s civil society funding streams currently closed, the Guide still offers an introduction to the Who, What, Where and Why of institutional donors for international development, including key links and information about applying.
